A Spanish-Colombian national, Sebastián is qualified as a lawyer in Spain, New York and England and Wales. He holds a dual degree in Law and Business Administration from the Universidad Pontificia Comillas and an LL.M. in International Business Regulation, Litigation and Arbitration from New York University School of Law. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
Sebastián was previously a Senior Associate in the International Arbitration Group at Allen & Overy in London and an Associate in the International Arbitration Group at Baker & McKenzie in Madrid. He was also an Adjunct Professor at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid where he taught Public International Law.
Sebastián’s practice spans commercial, and investor-state disputes in the financial, construction, sports, insurance, technology, and energy sectors, with a particular focus on disputes with complex technical or financial elements. He has managed cases subject to both common and civil law under most major arbitration rules and some specialised arbitration rules (including the CEPANI, LCIA, ICC, CAM, CEA, CIMA, ICSID, UNCITRAL and TAS-CAS Rules).
Sebastián is also experienced as a tribunal secretary and assistant, and is available to sit as an independent arbitrator through his own practice, MejiaIDR.
