Sebastián is an Ecuadorian-qualified lawyer. He holds both a Bachelor of Law (LL.B.) degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations with honours from the Universidad San Francisco de Quito. He also holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Law with first class honours from the University of Cambridge.
At Paxus, Sebastián advises States and multinational corporations on matters arising under public international law, regional human rights treaties and constitutions in Latin America. His input is sought in the context of investor-State arbitrations and the conduct of human rights due diligence for investors in Latin America.
Sebastián has gained experience in business and human rights through holding research positions in the Americas and Asia divisions of Human Rights Watch and Slavefreetrade International.
He was previously a managing Law Clerk at the Constitutional Court of Ecuador and prior to that he was Human Rights Attorney at the Attorney General’s Office of Ecuador. He has also held positions with the Ombudsperson’s Office and Deputy General Prosecutor’s Office of Ecuador and interned with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.
