Suzanne Spears to speak at a Symposium on Investors’ Obligations in International Law at the University of Geneva

Founder and Principal Suzanne Spears will speak on the panel, Investor Obligations: Human Rights, at a Symposium on Investors’ Obligations in International Law at the University of Geneva, this Friday, 17 May. She will discuss Human Rights & Climate Change – a topic of particular relevance given the growing number of investor-State arbitrations about climate change and measures taken by States to mitigate its effects on human rights.

Suzanne will be joined on the panel by Professor Makane Moïse Mbengue from the University of Geneva, and Mohit Khubchandani of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP, who will discuss socio-political obligations and labour standards respectively. The panel will be moderated by Dr. Elena Cima, also from the University of Geneva.

The Symposium is hosted by the University of Geneva Faculty of Law, WilmerHale and ALG LLP, and feature expert practitioners, diplomats and academics. It will open with “The Great Debate – The Pro and Contra Position – Investor Obligations in International Law?” between Ambassador Mario Oyarzábal, Ambassador of the Argentine Republic to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Member of the International Law Commission and Jackson Shaw Kern, Partner at ALG LLP, and moderated by Professor Martins Paparinskis, University College London and Member of the International Law Commission.
